Launched in 2005, TEDDY Network of Excellence (Task-Force in Europe for Drug Development for the Young) involves 19 partners from 11 European states: members of the scientific communities, pharmacological industry, European bodies working in the field as well as representatives of parents, legal guardians and patients associations. The project beneficiaries are the HIV positive patients who will be able to use new therapy combinations, more and more successful.
TEDDY is financed by the European Community through the specialized committee and has as primary objective to identify uncovered needs for development and usage of pharmaceutical products and pediatric drugs as well as to design, validate and consolidate data sources for pediatric medication. The goal of the activity is to integrate the information related to treatment of children of both genders into one data base at European level.
The activities developed within the TEDDY Network of Excellence are destined to increase the information level and to contribute to debates related to ethics in the field of research and usage of pediatric drugs (including the use of off-label and unlicensed drugs) as well as to use more efficiently biotechnologies for diagnosis and therapy prescription.
Romanian Angel Appeal is the only Romanian partner involved in this program, with a role of scientific coordination of the Romanian researchers who support TEDDY studies. RAA Foundation also coordinates the communication and training component within the network and contributes to administrating the TEDDY website.
To all these is added a huge effort for communication mediation between pharmaceutical companies and other major decision makers in order to encourage the development of new drugs, to optimize pediatric approaches and to draw recommendations concerning indications for existing drugs.
