For about three months we were very concentrated on the project. To begin with, we’ve searched and selected fundraising swimmers and the concurrently recipients – ten families who face autism every day.
As soon as we set up the three swim teams (Swimming Angels, Kaleidoscope and Good Heroes), we started working together to promote the Summer up! We overcome barriers! project and to persuade people to donate and make this respite camp for the families of children with autism come true.
It was hard, but it was nice too.
We were telling everyone about our project and about Swimathon, about swimmers and families, about how they can help us and the various bonuses we can help them get. Probably some of you already know, because we were extremely loud in the online area.
On the morning of July 8 the swimmers and supporters gathered all their emotions and entered with them inside the Dinamo Basin – some in the water, others in the stands.
All our efforts were worth it! Only 204 donations and some duplicate amounts by the organizer were all we needed to reach our goal (30,000 lei).
Our greatest surprise was represented by the Swimming Angels Team, made up of five outstanding children who, with a sum of 18,459 lei, ranked first among the 65 teams swimming for 23 projects enrolled in the competition.
The camp has become a reality.
With the help of the amount obtained, the beneficiaries of the project – 10 autistic children together with their parents and brothers, together with ten committed volunteers, left on August 13 in a 5 days respite camp in Brasov County.
During this camp volunteers facilitated outdoor games for children, colored and played with plasticine and kinetic sand, went for walks and told stories with children. In turn, parents have benefited from moderate group sessions of psychologist. Interactive sessions in which they offered and were supported were helped to recognize and access resources to help them in the future, and could share their own experiences in a solid and empathic environment.
The program also included excursions (to the Aquatic Park and the Zoo), enjoyed by all the participants alike.
“Your camp has brought me much peace, peace of mind and a new way of looking at everyday life.”
“We met people with the same challenges as we did. This has somewhat relieved the burden of. “
“Thanks for the chance of taking part in such a project. It was for the first time for us and we had very special moments alongside the others.”
“I liked having a psychologist who facilitated activities that made me feel good and open my soul.”
We want to thank this way for those who have trusted us and the chance offered to children and parents and supported us through donations. We also want to offer all our appreciation to the volunteers who have believed in the project and have been involved both physically and emotionally and who have raised funds, swam in the event or who accompanied the kids in the camp offering them special moments.
