PENTA / EUROCORD
PENTA (Paediatric European Network for Treatment of AIDS) was founded in 1991 and is a collaboration between HIV clinical centers for pediatric population in Europe. Clinical studies are funded mainly by the European Commission (through the project EuroCoord) of government bodies in some European countries, with the support of the pharmaceutical industry.
PENTA clinical trials network, training activities, respectively on cooperation between cohorts activities being conducted under the umbrella of PENTA Foundation for treatment, and the care of children with HIV.
Many questions about HIV treatment find their answer in adult clinical trials and need not be repeated in clinical trials for children. However, the natural history of HIV vertical transmission differs from the adult HIV history and tolerance for certain drugs given to children may also be different.
PenPact 1 (PENTA 9 / PACTG 390) was the first study conducted in our country PENTA after Romanian Angel Appeal was appointed to PENTA management studies in Romania.
EuroCoord (European network of HIV / AIDS cohort studies to coordinate at European and International level clinical research on HIV / AIDS) was established on 6 February 2006 with the goal of integrating projects between the different partners and coordinate applications for funding through EU Framework Programme seven.
